Decibel Magazine is hosting the premiere of “When Sex Is Not Enough,” by Brooklyn-based noise rock/punk outsiders FOREIGN BODY, the latest single preceding the band’s gnarled second LP, Libertine, dropping September 11th on Brutal Panda Records.
FOREIGN BODY plays raw, hideous, and vulgar music emblematic of the seedy underbelly of yesterday’s New York City, where sex workers walked the streets freely, rubble and decay were prevalent, drugs were readily available, and every businessman’s briefcase contained a loaded gun. The quartet spins Musou black yarns that polite society would rather have swept under the rug, soundtracking them with jaw-clenching and furious mid-tempo punk exploding with fresh ideas. And even though FOREIGN BODY drips with a loathsome mix of hatred for modern living and a desire for its immolation, they’re also one of music’s most promising faces.
Libertine is a wholly relentless album with unflinching portrayals of vice, perversions, and glorified excesses. The album was recorded by Matt Russell (REZN, Oozing Wound, Big Laugh), mixed and mastered at STR in San Diego by Matt Ibarra of Rectal Hygienics and completed with artwork by vocalist Hugh Potter. This is a must-hear record for fans of Brainbombs, Couch Slut, Rectal Hygienics, Unsane, Chat Pile, The Birthday Party, Flipper, Big Black, and labelmates Intercourse.
FOREIGN BODY vocalist Hugh Potter writes with the new single, “This is the second of two songs dedicated to obsessive sexual behavior of the male. Here the role of pornography and desensitization: a life drawn out only to consume and pleasure oneself. At the same time being destroyed by the inadequacies of fantasy and role play. Hence the Dworkin quote—this fantasy must be replicated in reality, and it is a violence that begets further violence. A timeline of scrubbed internet histories and deleted videos of dubious legality. You’re aware that it’s gotten out of control, but to stop you wouldn’t know where to begin and would you want to? Can you even come without the hideousness of your own perversions?”
With the premiere of “When Sex Is Not Enough,” Decibel writes, “Brooklyn noise rock quartet FOREIGN BODY are known provocateurs and their new single, ‘When Sex Is Not Enough,’ continues that approach… The vocals are strained and distorted, with bass and drums pushing the track forward and atonal guitar creating nonstop tension. For three and a half minutes the track roils, throbs and abrades with abandon.”
