CICATRIZES DO FUTURO, the gripping new album from the unique Brazilian avant/electro world punk duo DEAFKIDS, is out today on the Neurosis-operated roster of Neurot Recordings.
Formed in 2010 in Volta Redonda/Rio de Janeiro and signed with US-based label Neurot Recordings since 2017, DEAFKIDS is the work of multi-instrumentalists Douglas Leal (vocals, guitar, electronics, samplers, percussion, artwork) and Marian Sarine (drums, percussion, electronics, bass), who consistently blend the raw spirit of noise and punk with complex global rhythms and electronic experimentation, creating a vibrant and provocative body of work that challenges musical and aesthetic conventions.
DEAFKIDS returns with a vital and combustive new album, CICATRIZES DO FUTURO (translated to SCARS OF THE FUTURE), the band’s first non-collaborative full-length since 2019’s Metaprogramação. This nine-track sonic assault forges a path beyond the conventions and boundaries of static musical genres. Here, electronic fury and feverish organic percussion collide with a relentless Latin American punk spirit.
The band declares, “we’re back! CICATRIZES DO FUTURO is alive! It’s a great honor for us to be releasing another album through Neurot Recordings. This is probably our best material yet and we really hope you all enjoy it; play these songs loud and dance a lot! See you on the road. We want to play everywhere, and everyone is invited to come to our concerts. After 16 years, this is just the beginning, there’s much more to come. Much love from Brazil.”

“…the project of multi-instrumentalists Douglas Leal and Marian Sarine, who have built a reputation for fusing noise, punk aggression, global rhythms and electronic experimentation into a volatile, genre-defying sound… a nine-track assault that pushes further into rhythmic extremity and sonic abstraction… the duo lean into a darker, more electronic direction, built around a tightly controlled, polyrhythmic structure…” – Metal Injection
“Sonically, it’s both battlefield and zone of ecstatic, cathartic release. Played through speakers, its charred sonics engulf. Take it for a walk in your earbuds and the outside world will start to bend as you find your stride altering and adrenaline rising. By firing forwards and back through music history while sounding like they’re mastering technology as well as breaking it, DEAFKIDS paint an impending apocalypse but also a site of possibility.” – The Quietus
“CICATRIZES DO FUTURO is an album which sees DEAFKIDS start and ends the party with their intense but inclusive sonic assault and it sounds utterly glorious, and seemingly the only thing better than listening to this album would be experiencing these songs played live, where they would become entirely different entities, to their recorded counterparts, so hopefully the duo will grace these shows again soon with these forward thinking anthems.” – Echoes And Dust
“Although very few sounds on the album are not tweaked, chopped, distorted, and manipulated in some way, neither the effect nor the intent of the album seems particularly aggressive. Instead, like a canoe in a swift-moving river, it feels like an invitation to move one’s body in harmony with the flow.” – Last Rites
