Metal Hammer is hosting an exclusive stream of “Progeny of the Singularity,” by UK-based progressive black/doom metal outfit LYCHGATE. The song serves as the first single to be issued from the band’s impending Also sprach Futura, due in March through Debemur Morti Productions.

LYCHGATE’s Also sprach Futura was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Greg Chandler of Esoteric at Priory Recording Studios (Esoteric, Fen), who also provides vocals to the album. The album’s cover art painting, illustrations, design, and layout were handled by Khaos Diktator Design.

Metal Hammer writes in part with their premiere of the song, “’Progeny of the Singularity’ itself begins on a lysergic swirl of organs, hits a beat that tips your heart into panic-stricken overdrive and tips into the churning bowels of Hades, passing through its jazz lounge where lost souls smoke sulphurous cigarettes and glimpse riff-driven rays of tantalizing light. ‘Progeny of the Singularity’ needs to be heard to be believed, and even then, probably won’t be believed. Nevertheless, test your hold on the rational world and dive into the baleful currents of ‘Progeny of the Singularity’ below!”

Hear LYCHGATE’s “Progeny of the Singularity” only through Metal Hammer at THIS LOCATION.

Also sprach Futura will see release on digipack MCD, 10″ vinyl, special edition 10″ vinyl, and all digital platforms via Debemur Morti Productions on March 13th. Find preorders at Bandcamp HERE, the US label shop HERE, and the Euro webshop HERE.

Watch for additional audio premieres and more to be issued in the weeks ahead.

The follow-up of their critically acclaimed The Contagion in Nine Steps album, LYCHGATE’s Also sprach Futura is the latest work of dystopian singularity from a band engaged in an intense process of evolution and refinement since their eponymous 2013 debut. Melding the swarming, stained-glass complexity of 20th Century classical, the phantasmagoric, intertwining riffage of progressive death metal, the heft and texture of funeral doom and the conceptual density of forward-thinking black metal into four of the most addictive, propulsive, and potent compositions the band has created to date.

Thematically, Also sprach Futura examines nightmarish, all-too-real concepts which include transhumanism, simulacra and simulation, post-humanity, the uncanny valley, Pygmalionism and the fictional machine Golem XIV, which exceeds human intelligence. The record is a sui generis juxtaposition of the transcendental and the guttural, myth and metropolis, the weird and the eerie, fin-de-siècle aestheticism and a startling vision of a deeper, darker future indeed…
