A High-Energy Night of Punk and Ska — March 13 - Hans Gruber and the Die Hards and Crazy & The Brains

March 13 delivered a night packed with energy, personality, and nonstop movement as Hans Gruber and the Die Hards and Crazy & The Brains took the stage at Moe’s. With two bands known for lively, unpredictable performances, the crowd was in for one of those nights that reminds you why live music hits different.

Hans Gruber and the Die Hards Open the Night

Hans Gruber and the Die Hards kicked things off and wasted zero time getting the room moving. The Austin-based group blends punk, ska, and hardcore, powered by a bold horn section that adds a punch to their already fast, loud sound.

From the first song, the energy was immediate and contagious. The horns cut through the mix, the rhythm section kept things driving, and the band’s stage presence made it hard for anyone to stand still. The band offered up its signature conga line and brought along sock puppets; if you didn't have one, they could supply you with one for "No No Bronto."

What really stood out was how tight the band sounded while still keeping things loose and fun. They set the tone early and left the crowd buzzing heading into the next set.

Crazy & The Brains Bring Their Own Twist

Crazy & The Brains kept that momentum going, bringing their signature mix of punk energy and quirky charm. The New Jersey band is known for weaving melodies into their sound, and it adds a playful edge that makes their set stand out right away.

Their songs were fast, catchy, and unpredictable in the best way. The band leaned into the fun side of punk without losing any of the grit, and the crowd stayed locked in. The set ended with "Punk Rocker," and people in the audience were invited up on stage to sing along.

Their set felt fresh and a little offbeat in all the right ways, complementing the earlier chaos from Hans Gruber and the Die Hards while bringing something distinctly their own.

A Night That Just Worked

Together, the two bands created a well-balanced night of ska-infused punk and high-energy performances. Each brought a different flavor, but both shared the same ability to connect with the crowd and keep the room alive. I admired how much both bands engaged their audience both on and off stage.

From blasting horns and driving rhythms to quirky melodies and nonstop movement, March 13 delivered a fun, memorable night that left the crowd wanting more. If you get a chance to catch either of these bands live, DO IT!

Personal Highlight

Crazy & The Brains also threw in a fantastic cover of "Punk Rocker," a song I’ve always loved from Iggy Pop as well as the Teddybears—and they absolutely did it justice.
